Detailed View

Stay warm, stay performing, for the ultimate skiing experience

What exactly are heated ski gloves?

Heated ski gloves are specially designed gloves equipped with electrical heat conductors made of copper and carbon, among other materials. These flexible, thin wires are incorporated around your fingers, back of hand and, in some models, even in the palm and fingertips. Heating is done using rechargeable batteries, typically lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are completely hidden in a pocket in the cuff, so you almost don't realise you are wearing an electronic system. At the push of a button, you activate the heating system, after which your fingers are nice and warm again within five minutes. Most heated ski gloves offer multiple heat settings (usually three), so you can regulate the temperature yourself depending on the conditions and your personal need for warmth. Modern models offer excellent grip, plenty of freedom of movement and even a touchscreen finger so you can operate your smartphone with gloves on.

Advantages of heated gloves skiing over regular ski gloves

  • Active heat: Unlike classic ski gloves, which mainly insulate, heated gloves actively produce heat. This means your hands stay warm even if you don't move much or have poor circulation yourself.
  • Suitable for extreme cold: Many users report that heated gloves allow them to ski for long periods in temperatures down to -18 °C without any problems, where normal gloves are often inadequate.
  • Adjustable temperature: You choose from several modes, ideal to prevent hypothermia as well as overheating.
  • Comfort for sensitive hands: Skiers with Raynaud's syndrome or easily cold fingers structurally experience more comfort on the slopes.
  • Prolonged heat: No more cold hands after a lunch break; the warmth remains constant.
  • Health and safety: Warm hands help your muscles maintain their suppleness, reduce the risk of injury and give you more control over your skis and poles.

How do ski gloves work heated and are they safe to use while skiing?

The technology behind heated ski gloves is surprisingly advanced. The built-in heat system consists of thin heat conductors, usually made of copper and carbon. These are powered via a compact rechargeable battery concealed in the cuff. An on/off button (often on the back or in the cuff) lets you activate heating and switch between modes. You feel no cables or battery, which greatly enhances wearing comfort.

Modern models feature multiple layers of protection: waterproof membranes, safe electrical circuits with protection against short circuits and overheating, and frost-resistant batteries that continue to perform well even in the harshest winter sports conditions. They are designed to be completely safe to use, as long as you use the gloves as indicated in the instructions for use. The risk of electric shock is eliminated by the high-quality insulation and professional construction. Finally, quality brands are thoroughly tested to international safety standards, so you can hit the slopes with confidence.

How long do the batteries of heated ski gloves last during a day of skiing?

Battery life depends on several factors: the capacity (expressed in mAh), the heat mode chosen, the degree of insulation, and the outside temperature. In practice, heated ski gloves from top brands offer the following:

  • Highest setting (45-57°C): 2 to 3 hours
  • Medium mode: 4 to 6 hours
  • Lowest setting: up to 8-9 hours of continuous use

What should I look out for when buying heated ski gloves?

  • Fit and size: Gloves should fit well, not pinching but also not too roomy.
  • Waterproofing and breathability: Choose at least 4,000 mm water column or a known membrane (such as Gore-Tex) to keep you both dry and fresh.
  • Type and location of heating: Are all fingers and fingertips heated, or just the back of the hand?
  • Battery capacity and heat modes: How many mAh, how long does the heat last, and can you order additional batteries?
  • Durability and warranty: Minimum 2-year warranty; top brands often offer lifetime warranty on the heating system.
  • Ease of operation: Clear buttons (can be operated even with gloves on), battery indicator and touchscreen compatibility if needed.
  • Value for money: Determine your budget in advance. Top models cost between €200 and €350, but often deliver much more comfort and durability than cheaper alternatives.
