Yes, most heated clothing can be washed in the washing machine, but this must be done carefully to avoid damaging the heating elements and wiring. It is essential to remove the batteries before washing the clothes. Use a mild wash cycle with a low temperature (maximum 30 degrees) and a no spin cycle to protect the fabric and technology. It is also advisable to place the clothes in a laundry bag for extra protection against abrasion and to ensure that the wiring is not damaged. This is because the laundry bag ensures that the clothes remain compact as a whole, when washed separately the clothes are tossed back and forth with risk of fabric deformation and displacement of bekaling and heating elements inside.
How often you should wash heated clothing depends on its use and the conditions in which you wear it. We recommend washing the clothing as little as possible to prevent wear and tear. If the clothing is in such a dirty condition that it can no longer be worn (and cannot be washed by hand), we recommend washing it. We recommend always washing the clothing item by hand first, and only then using a washing machine for this purpose. Clothing does not always have to be washed immediately: it can also be treated. Consider using scent fresheners, airing the garment outdoors, or treating poorly the surface that is dirty and not the entire garment. Our clothing items that are worn directly over the skin (socks, t-shirts), can be washed more often from those that are not worn directly over the skin (jackets).
Always use a mild detergent without bleach or harsh chemicals when washing heated clothing. Specific detergents for technical fabrics or sportswear are ideal, as they help remove dirt and sweat without affecting the water-repellent properties and technology in the clothing. Avoid fabric softeners as they can damage the breathable and waterproof layers of the clothing, which can reduce the functionality of the heated clothing.
Pre-treating heated clothing involves treating stains or stubborn dirt with a mild stain remover beforehand. This avoids having to wash the clothes too often or for too long. After washing, it is important to dry the clothes gently: always dry them in the (outdoor) air and not with the washer/dryer. Make sure the clothes are completely dry before plugging them back in. For outdoor clothing, we always recommend re-impregnating this item with a water-repellent spray after every wash to make the water-repellent layer more effective. The water-repellent layer or coating on or in the garment does not remain active forever: the more you wash, the faster this layer is degraded. Refer to the manual for additional instructions.
